Day 10 — August 8
The students woke up in the morning and had breakfast at 7:15 a.m.

Activity 1 took place from 9:00 to 10:30 a.m., Activity 2 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., and Activity 3 from 1:30 to 3:00 p.m.

Groups 1, 2 and 3 participated in two different activities: Rock Climbing and Vertical Challenges.

The students returned to Churchlands at 4:00 p.m., where they were picked up by their host families.

Day 9 — August 7

The Akashi Nishi Senior High School (ANSHS) students and their host students from Churchlands Senior High School (CSHS) went on a trip to Fremantle and Woodman Point Recreation Camp.

In the morning, they travelled by bus to Fremantle and visited Fremantle Prison, where they took part in a guided prison tour.

In the afternoon, they had some free time to explore the town, have lunch, and do some shopping.

They then travelled by bus to Woodman Point Recreation Camp, arriving at 2:30 p.m. After being allocated their dormitories, they unpacked their luggage and played sports outdoors.

Next, they listened to Ms Ellis explain the camp schedule and activities.

After some free time, they went on a sunset beach walk. They walked to the beach and watched the sun set over the ocean. It was a very impressive sight.

The students then had dinner, after which Group 1 cleaned the dining room. In the evening, everyone enjoyed card games and a quiz night.

After showering, the lights were turned out, and everyone went to sleep.

9日目 — 8月7日

明石西高等学校（ANSHS）の生徒たちは、ホスト校であるチャーチランズ・シニア・ハイスクール（CSHS）の生徒たちと一緒に、フリーマントルとウッドマン・ポイント・レクリエーション・キャンプへ行きました。

午前中は、バスでフリーマントルへ行き、フリーマントル刑務所を見学しました。ガイド付きの刑務所ツアーに参加し、歴史ある施設について学びました。

午後は自由時間があり、町を散策したり、昼食を食べたり、買い物を楽しんだりしました。

その後、バスでウッドマン・ポイント・レクリエーション・キャンプへ向かい、午後2時30分に到着しました。到着後は宿泊する部屋の割り当てがあり、荷物を整理した後、外でスポーツを楽しみました。

続いて、エリス先生からキャンプ中のスケジュールや活動について説明を受けました。

その後、自由時間を過ごした後、夕日のビーチウォークに出かけました。海岸まで歩き、美しい夕日を眺めました。とても印象的な景色でした。

その後、夕食を食べ、グループ1が食堂の片付けを担当しました。夜はカードゲームやクイズ大会を楽しみました。

シャワーを済ませた後は消灯となり、みんな就寝しました。

Day 8 – August 6
On August 6, during Period 1 (P1), the students from Akashi Nishi Senior High School (ANSHS) shadowed their host students. Three ANSHS students joined a Mathematics class.

During Period 2 (P2), the ANSHS students attended an Australian Geography class with Ms Larissa Cool. She introduced a map of Australia and some of the country's famous landmarks. The ANSHS students then matched the famous places to their locations on the map.

During Period 3 (P3), half of the ANSHS students joined Ms Lee Ellis's Japanese class. Group 6 gave a presentation on social issues in Japan, including Toyoko Kids and gender equality. Afterwards, the ANSHS and Churchlands Senior High School (CHS) students introduced themselves in English or Japanese and asked each other questions.

During Period 4 (P4), the ANSHS students joined a Year 11 Japanese class with Ms Lee Ellis. First, the ANSHS and CHS students were divided into groups and competed in an Australia–Japan Friendship Quiz. They then paired up to introduce themselves and ask each other questions, with the ANSHS students speaking in English and the CHS students responding in Japanese.

After the lesson, the ANSHS students continued shadowing their host students before heading home together.

8日目（8月6日）
8月6日の1時間目（P1）は、明石西高等学校（ANSHS）の生徒たちがホスト生徒の授業に参加する「シャドーイング」を行いました。そのうち3名は数学の授業に参加しました。

2時間目（P2）は、ラリッサ・クール先生によるオーストラリア地理の授業を受けました。先生はオーストラリアの地図や有名な観光地・名所を紹介し、その後、ANSHSの生徒たちは地図上でそれぞれの場所がどこにあるかを確認する活動に取り組みました。

3時間目（P3）は、ANSHSの生徒の半数がリー・エリス先生の日本語の授業に参加しました。グループ6が「トー横キッズ」やジェンダー平等など、日本の社会問題について発表を行いました。その後、ANSHSとチャーチランズ高校（CHS）の生徒たちは、英語または日本語で自己紹介をし、お互いに質問をしながら交流しました。

4時間目（P4）は、リー・エリス先生のYear 11日本語の授業に参加しました。最初に、ANSHSとCHSの生徒がグループに分かれ、「オーストラリア・日本友情クイズ」で競い合いました。その後、ANSHSの生徒は英語、CHSの生徒は日本語を使って自己紹介を行い、お互いに質問をしながら交流を深めました。

授業後もANSHSの生徒たちはホスト生徒とともに過ごし、その後、一緒に帰宅しました。

Day 7 – August 5

On August 5, the students from Akashi Nishi Senior High School (ANSHS) gathered at Churchlands Senior High School (CSHS) in the morning before travelling by bus to Caversham Wildlife Park.

There, they had the opportunity to interact with kangaroos, wombats, and lizards. They also saw a wide variety of animals that are unique to Australia.

After lunch, the ANSHS students visited Kings Park.

In the afternoon, they enjoyed a Perth city tour. They walked around the city centre and visited Woolworths and a souvenir shop.

At 5:45 pm, they returned to CSHS, met their host families, and went home.

8月5日、明石西高等学校（ANSHS）の生徒たちは、午前中にチャーチランズ・シニア・ハイスクール（CSHS）に集合し、その後バスでキャバーシャム・ワイルドライフ・パークへ向かいました。

Day 6 – August 4

On August 4, the students from Akashi Nishi Senior High School (ANSHS) came to school and shadowed their host students during Period 1 (P1). They attended classes including Australia's Legal System, English, and Music.

During Period 2 (P2), Mr Jennings and the Australian students taught the basic skills of footy, or Australian Rules football. At the end of the session, three ANSHS students who demonstrated excellent kicking skills were selected to receive a new football.

In Period 3 (P3), the ANSHS students participated in a class titled Blackout Poetry led by Ms Emma Ford. They selected a page from a book, chose words to create a poem, and blacked out the rest of the page with black markers. The activity encouraged creativity and imagination.

During Period 4 (P4), the Japanese students were divided into two groups. One group joined Mr Reef Jennings, while the other worked with Ms Lee Ellis, both of whom teach Japanese.

In Mr Jennings' class, the ANSHS students answered questions in Japanese from the Churchlands Senior High School (CSHS) students about their family members. They also enjoyed practicing tongue twisters in both Japanese and English. Group 4 gave a presentation titled Japanese Anime and Manga, followed by a question-and-answer session.

In Period 5 (P5), the ANSHS students attended an Art class. After Ms Kate Grayson introduced Australian fashion, the students used colourful patterned paper to cut out shapes and design fashionable outfits for paper figures.

After school, at 3:00 p.m., the ANSHS students went home with their host students.

8月4日、明石西高等学校（ANSHS）の生徒たちは登校し、1時間目（P1）はホスト生徒と一緒に授業を受けました。授業には、「オーストラリアの法制度」、英語、音楽などがありました。

2時間目（P2）には、ジェニングス先生とオーストラリアの生徒たちが、フッティー（オーストラリアン・ルールズ・フットボール）の基本技術を教えてくれました。最後には、ボールを上手に蹴ることができたANSHSの生徒3名が選ばれ、新しいフットボールをプレゼントされました。

3時間目（P3）には、エマ・フォード先生による「ブラックアウト・ポエトリー」の授業が行われました。生徒たちは本の1ページを選び、気に入った単語を使って詩を作り、それ以外の部分を黒いペンで塗りつぶしました。この活動は、生徒たちの創造力や表現力を育むことを目的としています。

4時間目（P4）には、日本の生徒たちは2つのグループに分かれました。半分の生徒は日本語担当のリーフ・ジェニングス先生のクラス、もう半分は同じく日本語担当のリー・エリス先生のクラスに参加しました。

ジェニングス先生のクラスでは、ANSHSの生徒たちが、チャーチランズ・シニア・ハイスクール（CSHS）の生徒から家族について日本語で質問を受け、それに答えました。また、日本語と英語の早口言葉にも挑戦し、楽しい時間を過ごしました。さらに、第4グループが「日本のアニメとマンガ」をテーマに発表を行い、その後、参加者からの質問に答えました。

5時間目（P5）は美術の授業でした。ケイト・グレイソン先生からオーストラリアのファッションについて紹介があった後、生徒たちは色鮮やかな模様の紙を切り抜き、紙の人物に着せるおしゃれな衣装をデザインしました。

放課後の午後3時、生徒たちはホスト生徒と一緒に帰宅しました。

Day 5.  8/3

The students from Akashi Nishi Senior High School (ANSHS) spent the weekend (Days 3 and 4) with their host families.

On August 3 (Day 5), they went to school with their host students from Churchlands Senior High School (CSHS) in the morning. During the first period (P1), the ANSHS students had free time and practiced singing songs for the Welcome Ceremony. They also received welcome gifts from CSHS.

The Welcome Ceremony was held in the concert hall during the second period (P2). Japanese teacher Mr Reef Jennings opened the ceremony with a welcome speech, encouraging the ANSHS students to speak English confidently. A Year 11 student then performed a song.

Principal James Kent spoke about the 40th anniversary of the sister-school relationship between ANSHS and CSHS and presented Akashi Nishi Senior High School with a commemorative photo album. The ceremony concluded with a beautiful performance by a Year 8 string quartet.

The photo album highlights the many Australians who have contributed to the sister-school program over the years. It includes former CSHS teacher Mr Bill Taylor, who worked at the school from 1989 to 1992, and former Principal Mr John Miners, who served from the late 1990s until 2002. It also features Brittany Aw-Yang, who visited Japan as an exchange student in 2019 and is now working as an Assistant Language Teacher (ALT) at ANSHS.

Next, ANSHS Vice Principal Masamichi Tamura delivered a speech expressing appreciation for the warm hospitality that the Japanese students have received from their host families. He then presented a gift from Japan. Ms Yoshida, a representative student from ANSHS, also gave a speech, encouraging the students to speak English confidently and make many friends during their stay in Australia. The ANSHS students then performed their school song and This Is Me.

During the third period (P3), from 11:40 a.m. to 12:40 p.m., Principal Kent took the ANSHS students on a tour of the school. After receiving their lunches, the students visited nearby Woodlands Primary School.

In the fourth period (P4), from 12:40 p.m. to 1:40 p.m., the ANSHS students introduced Japanese children's games to the primary school students, including Daruma-san ga Koronda (Red Light, Green Light) and Drop the Handkerchief.

During the fifth period (P5), from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., the Woodlands Primary School students introduced two Australian games to the ANSHS students. One game involved kicking balls at pins, while the other involved one team shooting at a basket goal as the opposing team ran around the court.

 
After the activities, the students returned to CSHS at 3:00 p.m. before going home with their host brothers and sisters.

明石西高等学校（ANSHS）の生徒たちは、3日目と4日目の週末をホストファミリーとともに過ごしました。

8月3日（5日目）の朝は、ホストスチューデントと一緒にチャーチランズ・シニア・ハイスクール（CSHS）へ登校しました。1時間目（P1）は自由時間だったため、歓迎式典に向けて歌の練習をしました。また、CSHSから歓迎のプレゼントもいただきました。

2時間目（P2）には、コンサートホールで歓迎式典が行われました。日本語教師のリーフ・ジェニングス先生が歓迎のあいさつをし、「積極的に英語で話してください」と激励してくださいました。続いて、11年生の生徒が歌を披露しました。

その後、ジェームズ・ケント校長が、明石西高校とCSHSの姉妹校提携40周年について紹介し、記念のフォトアルバムを明石西高校へ贈呈してくださいました。式典の最後には、8年生による弦楽四重奏が美しい演奏を披露しました。

贈られたフォトアルバムには、長年にわたりこの姉妹校交流プログラムに携わってきた多くのオーストラリアの方々が紹介されています。1989年から1992年までCSHSで勤務されたビル・テイラー先生や、1990年代後半から2002年まで校長を務められたジョン・マイナーズ元校長も掲載されています。また、2019年に交換留学生として来日し、現在は明石西高校でALT（外国語指導助手）として勤務しているブリタニー・オー＝ヤンさんも紹介されていました。

続いて、明石西高校の田村昌路教頭先生が、ホームステイ先のご家族から温かいおもてなしを受けていることへの感謝の気持ちを述べ、日本からの記念品を贈呈しました。さらに、明石西高校の生徒代表の吉田さんが、「積極的に英語を話し、多くの友達をつくろう」と決意を語りました。その後、明石西高校の生徒たちは校歌と『This Is Me』を披露しました。

3時間目（P3・11時40分～12時40分）には、ケント校長先生の案内で校内見学を行いました。昼食を受け取った後、近くにあるウッドランズ小学校を訪問しました。

4時間目（P4・12時40分～13時40分）には、明石西高校の生徒たちが小学生に「だるまさんがころんだ」や「ハンカチ落とし」など、日本の遊びを紹介し、一緒に楽しみました。

5時間目（P5・14時～15時）には、ウッドランズ小学校の児童が、オーストラリアの遊びを2種類紹介してくれました。1つはボールを蹴ってピンを倒すゲーム、もう1つは、一方のチームがボールをバスケットゴールにシュートする間に、もう一方のチームがコート内を走り回るゲームでした。

すべての活動を終えた後、生徒たちは午後3時にCSHSへ戻り、その後、それぞれのホストブラザー・ホストシスターとともに帰宅しました。

Day 3 8/1
On August 1, the students from Akashi Nishi Senior High School (ANS) woke up early and had breakfast before flying to Perth, Western Australia.

They arrived in Perth in the afternoon and traveled by bus to Churchlands Senior High School, where they met their host families. Afterward, they went home with their host families to begin their homestay experience.

3日目
8月1日、明石西高等学校（ANS）の生徒たちは早朝に起床し、朝食をとった後、西オーストラリア州パースへ向けて出発しました。

午後にパースへ到着した後、バスでチャーチランズ・シニア・ハイスクールへ向かい、ホストファミリーとの対面を果たしました。その後、それぞれのホストファミリーと一緒に帰宅し、ホームステイ生活が始まりました。

On July 31, the students of Akashi Nishi Senior High School (ANS) returned to Kolej Tunku Kurshiah (TKC) in the morning and had breakfast.

After taking a group photo, they attended the opening ceremony.

The TKC students performed a traditional dance, sang a Japanese song, and delivered a welcome speech.

In return, an ANS student gave a speech expressing gratitude for TKC's warm hospitality and sang an English song.

The TKC principal and the ANS vice principal then delivered speeches expressing their appreciation for the sister-school partnership. They also exchanged sister-school agreement documents and souvenirs.

The TKC students gave a presentation introducing TKC and Malaysia.

After enjoying some refreshments, the TKC students introduced several traditional Malaysian activities, including Congkak, Batu Seremban (Five Stones), paper weaving, and cooking a traditional dessert from Negeri Sembilan.

After lunch, everyone attended the closing ceremony and said their goodbyes.

The ANS students then traveled to the Sama-Sama Hotel near Kuala Lumpur International Airport, where they stayed overnight.

7月31日、明石西高等学校（ANS）の生徒たちは午前中にコレジ・トゥンク・クルシア（TKC）へ戻り、朝食をとりました。その後、集合写真を撮影し、開会式に参加しました。

開会式では、TKCの生徒たちが伝統舞踊を披露し、日本語の歌を歌い、歓迎のスピーチを行いました。

これに対し、明石西の生徒代表が温かいおもてなしへの感謝を伝えるスピーチを行い、英語の歌を披露しました。

続いて、TKCの校長先生とANSの教頭先生が姉妹校交流への感謝を述べる挨拶を行い、姉妹校協定書と記念品を交換しました。

その後、TKCの生徒たちは、学校やマレーシアについて紹介するプレゼンテーションを行いました。

軽食を楽しんだ後には、TKCの生徒たちが、コンカッ、バトゥ・セレンバン（ファイブ・ストーンズ）、紙編み、そしてヌグリ・スンビラン州の伝統的なデザート作りなど、マレーシアの伝統文化を紹介してくれました。

昼食後、閉会式が行われ、互いに別れを惜しみながら挨拶を交わしました。

その後、の生徒たちはクアラルンプール国際空港近くのサマサマ・ホテルへ移動し、一泊しました。

On July 30, a language study tour group consisting of 25 students and three teachers from Akashi Nishi Senior High School (ANS) departed from the school by bus at 5:30 a.m. for Kansai International Airport.
They flew to Malaysia at 9:30 a.m. and arrived at 3:30 p.m.

They then traveled by bus to Kolej Tunku Kurshiah (TKC), where they received a warm welcome from the TKC students.

They met their TKC buddies and had dinner in the school cafeteria.

After dinner, the ANS students got to know the TKC students through a series of ice-breaking games.

They then traveled by bus to a hotel near TKC.

午前9時30分発の飛行機でマレーシアへ向かい、午後3時30分に到着しました。その後、バスでトゥンク・クルシア・カレッジ（TKC）へ移動し、TKCの生徒たちから温かい歓迎を受けました。生徒たちはTKCのバディと対面し、学校の食堂で夕食をとりました。

夕食後、ANSの生徒たちはアイスブレイクゲームを通してTKCの生徒たちと交流を深めました。その後、バスでTKC近くのホテルへ向かいました。

On July 28, 2026, a study tour formation ceremony was held. The 38th Malaysia-Australia Study Tour group is scheduled to depart on July 30.
Principal Matsuno spoke about the history of the international exchange program at Akashi Nishi Senior High School with its sister schools: Kolej Tunku Kurshiah in Malaysia and Churchlands Senior High School in Australia. The leader of the group, Vice Principal Tamura, expressed his hope that the members would gain wonderful experiences and create lasting memories. Following that, the student leader, Ms. Sugano, shared her determination to learn a lot about English and different cultures.

Afterward, the group showcased a handmade banner and performed two songs they will sing overseas: the school song and the song "This is Me" from the movie The Greatest Showman.

2026年7月28日、海外語学研修（スタディツアー）の結団式が開催されました。第38回マレーシア・オーストラリア研修団は、7月30日に出発する予定です。
松野校長は、明石西高等学校におけるマレーシアのカレッジ・トゥンク・クルシア校、およびオーストラリアのチャーチランズ高校という姉妹校との国際交流プログラムの歴史について話しました。引率団長である田村教頭は、参加メンバーが素晴らしい経験をし、思い出に残る時間を過ごせることへの期待を述べました。続いて、生徒代表の菅野さんが、英語やさまざまな文化について多くを学びたいという意欲を語りました。その後、一行は手作りの横断幕を披露し、現地で歌う予定の2曲――校歌と映画『グレイテスト・ショーマン』の劇中歌「ディス・イズ・ミー（これが私）」を合唱しました。

On July 16, 2026, an awards presentation ceremony was held at Akashi Nishi High School. The Girls' Volleyball Club, Track and Field Club, Girls' Handball Club, and Rifle Shooting Club received awards.

Among the award recipients were students from the Department of Global Awareness (DGA). SUGAHARA Kokoro, a second-year student in Class 8 and a member of the Track and Field Club, placed third in the Girls' 4 × 100-meter Relay at the 66th Toban High School Track and Field Championships.

In the 2026 Kinki High School Spring Rifle Shooting Championships, in the Beam Pistol Junior Girls' 60-Shot Standing Individual Event,  NAGANO Kokomi, a third-year student in Class 7, placed sixth, while Futaba Fujioka, a second-year student in Class 8, placed eighth.

Following the awards ceremony, a send-off ceremony was held for members of the Track and Field Club and the Rifle Shooting Club, who will compete in national championships.

The Rifle Shooting Club will participate in the 2026 (64th) National High School Rifle Shooting Championships. AOYAMA Nao, a third-year student in Class 7, will compete in the Beam Rifle Junior Girls' 40-Shot Standing Team Event.

In addition, NAGANO Kokomi, a third-year student in Class 7 will compete in the Beam Pistol Junior Girls' 40-Shot Standing Individual Event at the 2026 (4th) All Japan High School Sports Shooting Championships (AP/BP).

2026年度（第４回）全日本高校生スポーツ射撃競技選手権大会（AP・BP)ビームピストル少年女子立射40発競技個人に参加します。

On June 11–12, 2026, our school's 49th Cultural Festival (Meisei Festival) was held over two days.

Day 1
In the morning, following the opening ceremony, the Choir Club and the Drama Club gave performances. After that, the first-year chorus competition took place. Class 1-8 (DGA) beautifully performed "A Whole New World."

In the afternoon, a volunteer dance team called "heart" gave an impressive performance.

Day 2
In the morning, Class 2-8 (DGA) performed the play Zootopia.

In the afternoon, the top three teams from the chorus competition—Class 1-1, Class 1-5, and Class 1-6—performed their songs. Class 1-1 won first place with their performance of "RAIN."

In the drama category, Class 2-8 (DGA) won first prize for their performance of Zootopia.

In the food sales category, "Tacos de Amigo," run by Class 3-7 (DGA), which sold tacos, won second place.

一日目

午前中、オープニングのあと合唱部と演劇部の公演がありました。そのあと１年生のコーラス大会がありました。１年８組（DGA）は、'A Whole New World'を美しく歌いました。

午後,有志のダンスチーム'heart'が上手なパフォーマンスをしました。

二日目

午前中、２年８組（DGA）の演劇ズートピアが上演されました。

午後には、コーラス大会。の上位３チーム（1年1組、1年5組、1年6組)が歌を歌い、RAINを歌った1年1組が優勝しました。

劇の部門では、ズートピアを上演した2年8組(DGA)が優勝しました。食品販売の部門では、タコスを販売した3年7組(DGA)の'Tacos de amigo'が第２位になりました。

     The 2026 first school information session was held on May 9.  In the morning, the DGA information session took place. First, the DGA chief explained the Department of Global Awareness (DGA), and the last year's champion of the recitation contest in Akashi NIshi, Ms. Yoshida, recited a famous speech, 'I have a dream' by Martin Luther King, Jr.

Second, two graduates this spring, Mr. Arai and Ms. Ikeuchi, and two DGA students now talked about school life here at Akashi Nishi.

Then, three ALTs--Shelly, Shaquille, and Brittany--let junior high school students find particular types of students in an activity. 

      After the session,  some of the parents and the junior high school students asked the DGA first-year students questions at the cafeteria.

A welcome meeting was held on April 15, 2026.  The second-year students and the third-year students welcomed the first-year students with a big round of applause, when they entered the second-floor room of the alumni hall named Kisho Kaikan.

After Principal Matsuno gave them a welcome speech and ALTs and teachers introduced themselves, the first-year students were split into small groups and their seniors began describing school life at Akashi Nishi Senior High School . The first-year students listened eagerly to the senior students' explanations including English classes, school events, and overseas trips.

On April 8, a new school year started.   In the morning, new teachers were introduced on the stage, and an opening ceremony was held.  

In the afternoon, new students (Akashi Nishi 51st students and DGA24th students) participated in the entrance ceremony.

　　　A session where seniors shared their experiences regarding career paths was held on March 17, 2026. Six graduates from the 48th graduates of the Department of Global Awareness (DGA), who graduated in March of this year, participated (Mr. Katakuwa from University of Hyogo, Mr. Kanemoto from Osaka University, Mr. Nishimoto from University of Hyogo, Ms. Yamasaki from Kobe City University of Foreign Studies, Ms. Takahashi from Osaka Kyoiku University and Mr. Nishimoto from Kochi University). They shared their insights with first and second-year students of the DGA. They provided a lot of concrete and valuable advice. Thank you very much.

 On March19 (Thu),2026, the fourth GCI special lecture for the 1st-year students and the 2nd-year students of the Department of Global Awareness (DGA) was held. The lecturer was Mr. TAKAMI Yasuki, the 26th graduate of Akashi Nishi Senior High School (English Course) in 2004.

   The title of his lecture was “To become a person creating the future; the fusion of technology and humanity.” He spoke about his career in Japan and overseas and what he had learned while working. It was a very inspiring lecture. A lot of students and a teacher asked questions and Mr. Takami answered them sincerely.

　　On March 9, 2026, the third GCI special lecture for the 1st-year Department of Global Awareness at Akashi Nishi Senior High School was held. The lecturer was Mr. Hiroshi Hasegawa, a former vice principal of the school, former principal of Akashi Minami Senior High School, and a nationally certified guide interpreter. 

　　The title of his lecture was “Australia as Seen by an Exchange Teacher,” and he spoke about school life and everyday life in Australia. It was a very interesting lecture, and many questions were asked afterward. He answered them carefully.

     The 48th graduation ceremony was held at Akashi Nishi Senior High School on February 27. Thirty 3rd-year DGA students graduated from Akashi Nishi Senior High School .  They are the 21st graduates of the DGA. All the regular course students and the DGA students are the 48th graduates of Akashi Nishi Senior High School. 

     One day before the 3rd-year graduation, the award ceremony of Wakawashi (Young Eagle) awards was held on February 26. There were 12 students from the 3rd-year DGA class receiving Wakawashi awards. Wakawashi awards are given to students who have accomplished sporting or academic achievements during the past three years.

     The 19th Hyogo Prefecture Senior High School English Debate Contest was held at Kobe City University of Foreign Studies on February 1, 2026. The Akashi-Nishi debate team from the 2nd-year DGA participated in the contest. There were three preliminary rounds in the morning. In the first round, the Akashi-Nishi team debated against the seeded Kobe Senior High School and lost with a score of 0-3. In the second round, our team debated against Mukogawa Women’s University Senior High School and won with a score of 3-0. In the third round, the Akashi-Nishi debate team defeated Himeji Nishi Senior High School with a score of 2-1. Ultimately, the team was unable to advance to the semi-finals, finishing in 12th place among 22 teams. The debate team members and supporters did their best. They came in third place in terms of the ‘English Communication Point,’ which reflected how clear and understandable the English of our debate team was.

無事、日本に帰ってきました。羽田空港から伊丹空港、そして明石に向かいます。

生徒たちは代え難い経験をし、またやり残したことに気づき、次に海外に行ったときはこれをしたいという夢や目標や野望を持ったことと思います。

全員元気です。ロンドンへの名残りを残しながら、朝早く空港へ向かい、今から日本へ向け搭乗します。約12時間のフライトです。

大英博物館を見学後、学生ガイドとともに半日のツアー。早速打ち解けていました。ロンドン最後の夜は、パブでフィッシュ&チップスです。

全員元気です。天気と気候も良子です。昨日の観劇は迫力満点で、最後のスタンディングオベーションにも参加して満喫しました。これから大英博物館を見学し、現地学生ガイドとともにテーマに応じて街を散策します。英語をたくさんしゃべりましょう。

今年はタワーブリッジを実際に歩いてみました。ロンドン塔を見学後、ピカデリーでランチとショッピング、そしてナショナルギャラリーで絵画を鑑賞します。リアム君とはここでお別れ、夜は中華の後、「オペラ座の怪人」を観劇です。

全員元気です。地下鉄に乗り、タワーブリッジに来ました。今からロンドン塔に入ります。ここまで、全行程が晴れ。普通科の沖縄同様、とてもラッキーです。

ロンドン市内に入りました。ネイティブのガイドの英語を聞きながら、歴史ある街並みを回ります。反応がいいので、ガイドさんもノリノリで説明してくれました。夜はイタリアンです。去年まで留学で来ていたリアム君がノルウェーから合流してくれました！

昨日から一泊、ホームステイでファミリーと過ごしました。たくさん英語を話せたことと思います。今から３時間かけて、バスでロンドン市内に向かいます。

コッツウォルズ地方へ。美しい田舎町の風景を見ながら、ランチや買い物をします。スコーンと紅茶のクリームティーが人気です。

全員元気です。初めてのイングリッシュブレックファーストを楽しみ、シェイクスピアゆかりの町を散歩、生家を見学します。

オックスフォードで３時間のフリータイムを満喫し、クライストチャーチを見学、その後ストラトフォードのホテルへ。夕食後、時差ぼけ解消のためすぐ就寝です。

大学街オックスフォードに来ました。現地ガイドのナタリーさんの英語を聞きながら、街を周ります。

ロンドン、ヒースロー空港に到着しました。全員元気です。機内食は和食が選べました。

まだ羽田です。深夜のラウンジでな夕食です。ゴージャスな雰囲気。

出発しました。まだ伊丹空港ですが、気分はもうイギリスです。

On the morning of December 22, 2025,　Mr. Lukas LEDO visited Hyogo Prefectural Akashi Nishi Senior High School. Lukas studied at Akashi Nishi Senior High School in Japan from September 2023 to July 2024. This time, he returned to the school after two years and reunited with the students from DGA Class 1-8 (now Class 3-8). He also participated in English and physical education classes.

In January 2025, Lukas had already reunited with the current DGA 3-8 class students (who were 2nd-year students at the time) in London during their UK study trip. Lukas is Italian and is currently studying French at a high school in France. This time, he came to Japan with his mother and visited Akashi Nishi Senior High School. Afterward, he plans to visit Hiroshima and Kyoto, staying in Japan for about two weeks until January 3, 2026. He expressed his desire to come back to Japan again when he becomes a university student.

On the morning of December 18, 2025 (Thursday), first-year students from the Department of Awareness (DGA) at Hyogo Prefectural Akashi Nishi High School visited the University of Hyogo. First, Mr. Jeremy September from the Global Business Course (GBC) of School of Economics and Management gave a lecture about his home country, South Africa. Following that,  the students had an exchange meeting with Akashi Nishi High School graduate, Ms. Kawasaki, a second-year student, who shared stories about her high school days and current university life.

In the afternoon, the students visited Kobe City University of Foreign Studies. They first had lunch in the cafeteria. Then, there was a university overview presentation by staff, and we watched a mock class video. Finally, we had a campus tour and discussion session with student participants. Akashi Nishi High School graduates who participated included Ms. Nishimura (first-year), Ms. Onishi (second-year), Mr. Kitamura (third-year), and Mr. Hirose.

On the morning of November 27, 2025 (Thursday), 1st-year students at Akashi Nishi Senior High School visited Kobe University. First, we toured the Kobe University campus. We enjoyed the view from the top floor of the Tsurukabuto Second Campus and visited other campuses guided by Mr. Okamoto, a fourth-year student at Kobe University and graduate of our school.

Next, Professor Koichi Yamashita from the Faculty of International Human Sciences gave a mock lecture titled "Interaction between Globalization and Education - Social Development and Individual Growth". Afterwards, he introduced the Faculty of International Human Sciences at Kobe University.

In the afternoon, we visited JICA Kansai located in HAT Kobe. First, Ms. Horai spoke to us about JICA. Then, we listened to the experiences of Ms. Emiko Morita, who worked as a JICA Overseas Cooperation Volunteer in Zambia. It was a fulfilling day.

      On November 7, 2025, the English Recitation Contest for the 1st-year students of the DGA was held in the 5th period at School Alumni Hall (Kisho Kaikan). Finalists and guest speakers including an international student from Belgium, Loic, made wonderful speeches. The students who won the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th places were awarded on November 21 at the principal's room.

  On November 7, 2025, the English Speech Contest for the 2nd-year students was held in the 6th period. Finalists and guest speakers made wonderful speeches. The students winning the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and 4th places were awarded on November 18 at the principal's room.

An award ceremony was held at the gym of Akashi Nishi Senior High School in the 7th period on October 9, 2025, and eight DGA students were awarded.

First, two award winners of Toban-Deistrict English speech contests received their certificates; Ms. NAGANO Kokomi received the third prize of the contest, and Mr. TSUJITA Riichi got the certificate of the fourth place.

Next, two third-year DGA students received the certificate of EIKEN Pre-1st Grade. They were Ms.TAIRA Sachika and Ms. MAEDA Yuina.

Finally, four third-year DGA students received the certificate of GTEC Official Test Advanced B2 level, equivalent to EIKEN Pre-1st Grade. They were Ms. ANDO Manami, Mr. KANEMOTO Changki, Ms.KOUNO Yuuki, and Ms. TSUKUDA Emi. 

The 40th Hyogo Prefecture Higashi-Harima District Senior High School English Speech Contest was held at Miki Senior High School on October 4, 2025. Three students joined it from Akashi Nishi Senior High School.  All of them are the  2nd-year students belonging to the Department of Global Awareness(DGA). 

Ms. NAGANO Kokomi made a speech titled, 'Carrying My Hometown on My Shoulders' and  came in the third place. She has advanced to Hyogo Prefectural English Speech Contest. 

Mr. TSUJITA Riichi came in the fourth place, and Ms. TAKAHASHI Hinako did her best.

The 21st Junior High School English Recitation Contest was held at Akashi Nishi Senior High School on September 27, 2025. Twenty-two students joined the standard section (一般部門）and four students joined the experienced section (特別部門)

Four students in each section were awarded. In the standard section, the first place went to MIYAZAKI Kouta from Iwaya Junior High School.

2025 Sports Day was held at Akashi Nishi Senior High School on September 26, 2025.

The third-year DGA (3-8) students joined the pink block (H) and won  the cheering competition.

Second-year DGA yellow-team students also did their best.

The first-year DGA green-team students participated in the cheering competition for the first time. 

ALTs also enjoyed joining the Sports Day.

The second open high school was held at Akashi Nishi Senior High School on September 20, 2025.

First, in the first half, junior high school students and their parents listened to explanations of (1) the whole school and the regular course, (2) Education course (3) the Department of Global Awareness(DGA).

Second, the DGA offered its own programs: 

(1) A first-year DGA student Ms.Kawabe made a speech; she was the champion of the speech contest held in the English Camp held in August at Aspia Akashi.

(2) A group of two or three students from the second-year DGA class answered the questions about (A) English and other classes (B) School events (C) Visiting universities  and (D) Club activities.

(3) The junior high school students listened to 2024 English listening test of the DGA.

(4) The junior high school students and their parents listened to self-introductions of three ALTs of Akashi NIshi;(1) Shaquille from America (2) Shelly from Balbados and (3) Brittany from Australia.

There were two sessions in the morning and in the afternoon. In total, the number of participants was 127. They were 64 students , 61 parents and two teachers. Thank all the participants for coming. See you at the next open high school in November! 

     2025 Akashi Nishi Senior High School English camp was held between July 23 and July 25.  The 1st year DGA students joined the camp, which was held at Aspia Akashi. During three days of the camp, all the participants were supposed to speak only English. Three ALTs and two ALTs from Akashi Josai High and Prefectural Agriculture High School  gave lessons in English. 

     On the first day and the second day the students had five lessons, which included a variety of activities such as debates, discussions, and games. They participated in the 'Ultra Quiz', in which four groups tried to answer 50 questions asked by ALTs. Team 4, Kangaroo, led by Ms. Kashimoto, came in the first place, Team 2, Panda, lead by Ms. Ueda, came in the second place, and Team 3 Lion headed by Mr. Ogura got the third prize.

     On the second day, there was a qualifying round of a speech contest. Thirteen students advanced to the finals, and they made wonderful speeches on the last day. Ms. Kawabe got the first prize, followed by Ms. Sugahara in the second place and Ms.Ueda and Ms. Kurita both came in the third place. 

    After the closing ceremony, 1-8 students gave presents to the ALTs to thank them.

The first Global Citizenship I (GCI) special lecture was delivered online to the first-year students of the Department of Global Awareness (DGA) on July 15, 2025.

The lecturer was Mr. Kouta Hirose, who is currently participating in a co-op program (also known as cooperative education) near Vancouver, Canada. Co-op programs in Canada integrate academic study with practical, paid work experience in a student's field of study.

Mr. Hirose graduated from Akashi Nishi Senior High School in March 2022 (the 44th graduating class and the 17th DGA graduate) and began studying English at Kobe City University of Foreign Studies in April. During his third year, he decided to study in Canada.

Mr. Hirose discussed the following topics online: 1) self-introduction; 2) what a co-op program is; 3) differences between co-op programs and working holiday programs; 4) his experiences at a language school and at work; 5) his career plans after the program; and 6) what he learned from the program.

After the one-hour lecture, several questions were asked, including about his favorite food, his English proficiency while studying at the DGA, and the languages used in Canada.

He said, "At first in Canada, my English speaking skills were weak because I didn't provide reasons for my statements. I was perceived as superficial. Since then, I have tried to support every statement with a reason. I encourage you to practice expressing your opinions with supporting reasons consistently."

In his final message, he said, "Of course, you should study English, but please also try to find another field of study besides English language learning. In Canada, there are many immigrants from around the world, and they all speak English."

The second day of the Meisei-sai (Akashi Nishi Cultural Festival) was held.

First, all the students gathered at the gym and saw the band made up of some teachers and students play music. The audience was excited. 

In the north building on the 1st floor, the Tea Ceremony and Flower Arrangement Club held a tea ceremony. 

A cup of powdered green tea and a dumpling were served for free.

At the entrance area of the south building, there were two classes selling food---the 3-8 class was selling octopus balls and the 3-2 class was selling frankfurters. 

In the morning some volunteer singers and dancers performed on the stage. At 9:45, ITOOKASHI sang wonderfully. At 11:05, Landmine boys sang wonderful songs and danced beautifully.

In the afternoon,  an ALT Blake performed rakugo. The title was 'Zoo'.  The story amused the audience very much.

Then the 1-8 class sang a school song and a song titled 'This Is Me' in the finals of the chorus competition.

They did their best. They came in the fourth place.

At 14:05, the ESS (English Speaking Society), which many DGA class members belong to, held a play titled, 'Toy Story 3'.  The audience enjoyed a funny story performed by students and two ALTs. It was made easier to understand by Japanese subtitles on a screen.

Then the brass band played several songs. One of them was 'Matsuken Samba.'  Teachers of the third year appeared and sang and danced to the music. The students were amused and excited at the performance.

At 15:10, a closing ceremony was held.  The 2-7 class of the DGA received the third prize of all the 2nd-year plays. The 3-8 DGA class was awarded the first prize of all the 3rd-year food shops.

     Akashi Nishi Senior High School held a two-day cultural festival on June 11 and 12. 

In the morning of the first day, an opening ceremony was held. Commercial films for ESS and 3-8 were shown.

Every student enjoyed seeing the chorus club and the drama club perform.

After these wonderful performances, the 2-7(DGA) drama, "Remember Me", was performed. The story was clear and actors (double- or triple-casts) performed well. 

Then, a dance group from 3rd-year DGA girls, Twinkle's, danced beautifully on the stage, followed by The Beasts, a 3rd-year DGA male singer and a dancer, performed.

Outside, 3rd-year students were selling food. The 3-6 class, Fujichan Dango,  prepared tasty dumplings. The 3-4 class, CHIGU-Donald, fried French fries, seasoned with several-taste powders. The 3-5 class, Gori-chan Pancake, baked delicious pancakes.

The 3-7 class, Shiawase-no Baby Kasutera, sold  soft and small sponge cakes. The 3-2 class, Grand Maison Makino, broiled yakitori, grilled chicken. The class 3-1, KOBUSHI-DE Croffle, baked croffle, a kind of pancakes which combine croissants and waffles.

All the 1st-year classes took part in a preliminary round of the chorus competition.  The 1-8 class sang a school song and a song "This Is Me."

The 1-8 class was chosen as one of the four classes which have advanced to the finals. The final chorus competition  will be held in the afternoon  of June 12. 

On May 3rd, Yuma Hishitani, a second-year student from DGA, participated in Soroptimist International of Akashi Club Youth Forum. The theme was “A woman’s way of life in the bright future ~ Learning from ancient women~”. 7 students from Akashi city’s high schools made a speech on the theme.

Ms Hishitani talked about her experience of learning traditional Japanese dance.

After the speeches, 7 participants discussed the theme and deepened their understanding.

     In the evening of April 17 (Thu), a farewell party for Churchlands students was held. Churchlands students, teachers,  ALTs, and host brothers and sisters with host family members came to a careteria of Akashi Nishi.  They talked over pizza and drink. They had a good time, singing a song in the end.

     Early in the morning  on Apri18, the host family brought Churchlands students to school, and said farewell

to each other.  Churchlands students  left school on foot to JR Tsuchiyama station. They were going

to stay in Kyoto for a few days. Then they were going back to Australia. Their trip to Japan was from April 6 to April 21.

    Second- and third-year  students of the Department of Global Awareness (DGA) held a welcome meeting  for the first-year DGA students in the gym on April16 (Wed), 2025.

   First, the 1st-year students entered the gym and they were welcomed by their seniors. Two second-year MCs, Mr. Kotake and Mr. Tsujita, announced they were going to start a welcome ceremony. A principal, a DGA chief, DGA staff including homeroom teachers and ALTs greeted the first-year students.

     Then, in 14 groups, the senior students talked about their study and school events.

     A welcome ceremony for Churchlands students was held on April 14, 2025. A teacher and three students told Akashi Nishi students that they would like to not just learn the Japanese language but also learn about Japanese culture as well as make friendships.

    They made okonomiyaki or Japanese-style savory pancakes in a cooking room. They cooked them and enjoyed eating them.

   On April 15(Tue), Churchlands students talked with the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd-year Akashi Nishi DGA students. They talked about their hobbies, favorite movies, anime as well as their favorite food both in English and Japanese.

They also learned how to perform karate moves from Mr. Sato, a karate master. 

After school, they joined club activities. Some practiced kendo, a traditional martial art of swordsmanship.

   28 students and three teachers came from Chruchlands High School in Perth, Western Australia to Akashi on April 11. They arrived in Akashi Nishi Senior High School around16:00, and they met their host brothers and sisters. Their host family took them home.

     They  are going to stay in Akashi for 8 days. They will come to school with their host brothers and sisters. Before coming to Akashi, they spent 4 days in Tokyo.  

 In the afternoon of  April 9, 2025, a meeting ceremony or taimenshiki was held.  First-year students entered a gym, while second- and third-year students were clapping their hands and welcomed them, with the brass band playing music.

Then a representative of the first-year students, Ms. Fujioka from Class1-8, expressed her determination on behalf of the first-year students, and Ms. Hasegawa, a student council president, hoped that they would do their best..

Next, a farewell ceremony was held. Second- and third-year students took part in it.  Each of the teachers talked about a good point of Akashi Nishi Senior High School students. Mr. Mitani said they were gentle, and Ms. Ano said they were patient.  Ms. Takeuchi hoped that Akashi Nishi students would not limit themselves and take on a challenge.  They all thanked the students  for their memorable school life here at Akashi Nishi. 

     The 23rd students of the Department of Global Awareness at Akashi Nishi High School attended an entrance ceremony  on April 8, 2025.

     After the ceremony, they entered their homeroom class, 1-8, and met three Assistant Language Teachers (ALTs)--Blake from Australia, Jaleeca from Trinidad and Tobago, and Keke from South Africa, as well as  two Japanese Teachers of English (JTEs)----Mr. Takagi (Mike), chief of the DGA, and Mr. Mitsutake (John), chief of Planning & Promotion Department.

     After they listened to necessary information about Akashi NIshi from their homeroom teacher, Ms. Yamane, they came out to a middle yard and had their pictures taken.

2025年4月4日（金）兵庫県立明石西高等学校50回生の合格者登校があり、国際人間科23期生33名が登校しました。

注文していた制服、体操服、シューズなどを受け取りました。そのあと、新２年生が1年生8組の教室へ行き、新入生に学校生活のアドバイスをしました。そのあと、桜の木の近くで、23期生と22期生の代表と写真をとりました！

　進路先輩体験談を聞く会が行われ、国際人間科を今年度3月に卒業した47回生の５名（Sくん（島根県立大学）、Sさん（国際基督教大学）、Nさん（神戸市外国語大学）、Hくん（徳島大学）、Oさん（金沢大学））が出席して、国際人間科１，２年生に体験談を話しました。

　「資格（英検など）は早めにとっておきましょう」「1年生からすべての課題を丁寧にしておきましょう」「学校のテストはどの教科も70％はとれるようにしましょう」「受験までに１教科でも得意教科を作っておきましょう」「受験時SNSの利用時間を制限しましょう」「大学の情報は1,２年のうちに調べておきましょう」「小テストはがんばりましょう」「一般入試のみを考えていても、部活・評定が関係することがあるのでがんばっておきましょう」

など、具体的で、体験者だからこそいえるアドバイスをたくさんしていただきました。ありがとうございました。

明石北高校、明石清水高校、明石西高校の２年生有志生徒が、明石北高校に集まり、課題研究の成果を発表しました。

本校からは３グループ、７人の生徒が参加しました。

それぞれ「日本の農業の活性化」「家庭における食品廃棄の改善方法」「ジェンダー偏見による職業選択の実態」をテーマに発表しました。

英語での発表であり、他校の生徒さんや先生方から、DGA生の英語の発音のよさや話すことへの慣れ、自信を感じたという声をいただきました。

本校生にとっても、プレゼン力をつけるいい経験となったと思います。

　2025年3月6日(木)、2024年度第３回Global Citizenship I 特別講義が同窓会館2Fで行われ、国際人間科1,2年が参加しました。講師は、本校第１回卒業生であり関西学院大学総合政策学部清水康子教授でした。清水教授は国際協力に関するゼミ担当で、清水ゼミの生徒３名が今年度の７月と９月のGCI特別講義で「平和について」の授業をしてくれました。

　今回の講演のタイトルは、「世界の平和を考える～難民支援の現場から」でした。内容は３つにわかれており、１）自己紹介　２）勤務されていた国連難民高等弁務官事務所（UNHCR)での経験　３）現在の仕事と平和について　でした。

まず１）の自己紹介の中では、関西学院大学経済学部在学中に「古典芸能研究部」に所属したが、小中高校で行った芸術鑑賞で歌舞伎や落語などに触れて興味を持ったことを話され、自分のバックグラウンド（日本人なら伝統的な日本のこと）に触れて知識を持っておき披露できるように、とのお話しがありました。

次に２）UNHCRで勤務した経験について話されました。最初に「難民条約に基づく定義」、「国連の定義」、「パレスチナ難民」など難民の定義を考え、「国内避難民」なども足していけば、日本人の人口と同じくらいになることを学びました。そして、ユーゴスラビアのコソボ自治州におけるコソボ紛争についての説明がありました。コソボでアルバニア人とセルビア人の対立があり、１９８９年にセルビア共和国がコソボを統治しアルバニア系住民を弾圧したため、1998年コソボ解放軍が政府施設を破壊し、セルビア治安当局との紛争状態となりました。そのあと、1999年3月にＮＡＴＯがユーゴスラビアを空爆しため、セルビア治安部隊は激しくアルバニア系住民攻撃を攻撃し、８４万人以上の人が隣国アルバニアとマケドニアへ難民として逃げていった、ということを学びました。

　そのような中で、UNHCRはコソボ紛争時に緊急援助をしました。清水氏は1998年7月--12月にコソボで勤務し、現地の状況を見ました。また、1999年1月ー5月にアルバニアで勤務し、コソボから逃げてきたコソボ難民と関わりました。ウガンダでも1996--1998年、1999--2001年に勤務しました。その時に迫害から逃れる人々などと関わり、それについてのエピソードを話されました。その中で、「戦うことが平和になるのか」という問いがありました。「平和」→「攻撃」→「怒り、憎しみ」→「戦い」という連鎖で平和になるのでしょうか。

最後に「３つのメッセージ」がありました。

①選択する際に平和につながる選択をしましょう。

②笑いの効用を使いましょう。（しんどいときこそ声をだし笑おう）

③国際社会で活躍するため、日本人なら伝統的な日本の文化に興味をもち話せるようにしましょう。

Q＆Aでは、①に関して、「高校生として平和につながる選択とは何ですか」、という質問がありました。答は「選挙に行く」というお答えでした。

　　今回、清水先生は明石西高校の卒業生として上記のことを実践され、よきロール・モデルとなってくださいました。また、インスピレーション、動機づけを与えていただきました。ありがとうございました。国際人間科の生徒のみなさん、Global Citizenship特別講義をきっかけに①難民問題を含め世界の動きを知り、世界平和について考えましょう。また　②英語力の向上　③自分たちの文化の紹介　に取り組み、よき'Global Citizens'になりましょう。

48回生(国際人間科21期生)のイギリス研修旅行は様々な形で支えてくださった皆様のおかげで、全ての行程を無事に終えることができました。本当にありがとうございました。生徒たちからの熱い研修報告書の提出が完了し、少し皆様方と共有できたらと思いまして、いくつか抜粋となりますが、ご覧ください。

「結論から言うと、自分は今回の研修旅行で世界に対する意識や考え方が180度変わりました。200ある国のうちのたったの一つに行っただけですが、その考え方が変わる可能性は十分にあります。」

「1番取り組んでいてよかったと思えた事前学習は総合英語Rです。Book Reviewではヘンリー8世やシェイクスピア、オペラ座の怪人について、教科書ではホアハカナナイアについて学習し、ガイドツアーや大英博物館、観劇を楽しむことができました。少し聞き取れないようなことがあっても自分の知識から推測できることも大きな利点だと感じました。大英博物館で見たホアハカナナイアも教科書で島から博物館へ来た経緯や今の島の人々との関係と状況を学んでいたため、大きさに感動したことはもちろんですが、少し切ないようにも感じました。」

「大英博物館で世界中のエジプトやギリシャなどの古代文明の信じがたい高度な技術を目の当たりにして数千年前のものが時を超え目の前にある感動とこの謎を解き明かしたいという好奇心が生まれました。このような様々なイギリスの素晴らしいものを見て感じて僕は同時に日本の文化や芸術の素晴らしさも改めて実感しました。ホームステイでの会話やガイドの方、現地の人々などを見て僕はイギリスの人々は自分の国の歴史や文化に誇りを持っているように見えました。自分の国に誇りを持った上で他の文化に触れ合うことを恐れず、他国の素晴らしいものに触れ、感動する心を忘れない人こそが国際社会で必要とされる人間ではないのかと、この研修旅行を通して僕は考えるようになりました。」

「一番印象に残っていることは二つあり、一つはオペラです。Book reviewで読んだ内容とほとんど同じでしたが、少しオペラの方がオリジナルの要素が詰め込まれていました。私は一年生からの英語のリスニングや勉強の積み重ねたおかげで、オペラで英語が聞き取れるようになったと実感し嬉しかったです。」

「私がイギリス滞在中に発見したことはトイレの看板が日本と異なっていたことです。日本のトイレの看板は、男性は青色のピクトグラム、女性はピンク色のピクトグラムがそれぞれ別々に、またはセットで表示されている看板がほとんどですが、イギリスで私が見た看板は白色の男女のピクトグラムの間に子供のピクトグラムもあり多様性が感じられました。」

「今回のイギリス研修の個人の目標は、とにかく英語を使うことでした。私は今回どのガイドさんにも積極的に質問できたし、いつもより楽しく会話できたと思います。私はイギリスで少し日本人離れできた気がします。ナショナルギャラリーや大英博物館では自分で見たいも作品を根気よく探すのも一つの手だったけど、係の人に聞いてスムーズに回れました。ゴッホの作品が見れなかったのは流石に残念だけど、その作品の部屋が閉まっていることも係の人から自分で聞けたからよかったし、それが自分の自信になったように思います。」

「イギリスに限らず、他の国もそうですが、勝手に自分がイメージしていることや、ネットに書かれていることとは、実際は違うんだろうなということが分かりました。行ってみないと分かりません。人によって感じることは違うかもしれませんが、実際私は今回イギリスに行って、自分のイメージで止まっていたことが分かったり、知っていたことも知らなかったことも両方知識を深めることができました。自分の中で思い描くので止まるんじゃなくて、知りたいなら実際に行くのが一番の手段だと分かりました。これからも事実を見ていこうと思います。」

「私が特に印象に残っているのは、帰りのヒースロー空港で出会った男性です。私が売店で水を買うときカードを使おうとすると、暗証番号を入れなければならず、買うことができませんでした。すると、後ろに並んでいた男性が何も言わずにその水を買って私のところに持ってきてくれました。一瞬の出来事で、ちゃんとお礼を言えなかったことが悔しいです。ですが、不意にそんな優しさに触れて、ぶわっと心があたたかくなりました。私もその人のように、国籍を超えてでも困っている人を助けられるような人になりたいと思いました。」

「普段の学校生活ではあまり話す機会がなかった友達ともいっぱい会話して、新しく自分と同じことに興味がある子がいることに気づくことができました。イギリスの文化や歴史をたくさん学んだだけでなく、人間としてこうあるべきだという固定概念にとらわれずに、自分らしくあることの大切さも改めて感じました。私の初海外はみんなのおかげで本当に一生物の思い出で溢れています。大人になってたくさん海外へ旅行に行ったとしてもきっと、21期生のみんなと行くことができた今回の研修旅行を超える深くて濃い経験をすることも、思い出を作ることはできないでしょう。」

「この約2年間を振り返ってみて、英語を話すことや勉強することがずっと大好きで頑張ってこれたわけではありませんでした。それでもクラスのみんなや先生方、家族がいてくれたからこそ今の自分がいるのだと改めて感じることができました。この約2年間を一緒に過ごしてきたクラスのみんなには感謝の気持ちでいっぱいであると同時に、みんなでロンドンに行くことができて本当に良かったです。残りの高校生活や高校卒業後もこの気持ちを持ち続けたいです。次は大人になってからもう1度、自分でロンドンに行ってみようと思いました。このイギリス研修旅行に関わって下さったすべての人に感謝の気持ちを忘れずにこれからも頑張っていきたいです。」

  2025年2月2日（日）に明石西高等学校国際人間科2年8組のディベートチーム6名とサポーターが神戸市外国大学で行われた第18回兵庫県高校生英語ディベートコンテストに参加しました。参加チームは２２チームでした。まず、対戦校はくじ引きで決まり本校は昨年ベスト４のためシード校でした。

　午前は予選３試合が行われ、第１試合は明石西（肯定）対宝塚西高校で３－０で勝利しました。第２試合は明石西（否定）対姫路西高校で１－２で負けました。第３試合は明石西（肯定）対加古川西高校で、０－３で負けました。トータル１勝２敗、vote数４，swiss points12, communication points31で予選敗退しましたが、肯定、否定の４人チームはそれぞれベストをつくしました。

　午後のベスト４校による準決勝は葺合対東播磨、神戸対加古川西が行われ、決勝はホールで葺合対神戸が行われ、３－２で葺合高校チームが優勝しました。

　国際人間科２年８組のディベートメンバーやサポーターは、半年前に①第１９回全国高校生英語ディベート大会(HEnDA)兵庫県予選会に参加するため練習を開始し、続いて出場メンバーを一部変更して今回の②兵庫県高校生英語ディベートコンテストに参加しました。ディベートは①内容②英語、のが必要でどちらの面でも用意することで勉強になったことでしょう。この経験を今後の英語学習や大学での活動に生かしてほしいです。来年度、現在の１年生に先輩の活躍が引き継がれることを期待しています。

第32回高校生英語暗誦・スピーチコンテスト最終選考会（神戸日米協会主催）が1月25日（土）に神戸神戸ポートピアホテルで行われました。本校からは、11月に行われた予備選選考会を通過した、国際人間科1年生の長野心美さんが参加しました。

最終選考会では、'”My Wish”というテーマで最終選考に残った13名がスピーチを行いました。長野さんは自身の経験をもとに、姉妹都市の交流をベースとした異文化理解の実現についてのスピーチを行いました。残念ながら入賞とはなりませんでしたが、同世代のスピーチを聞き、さらに英語学習や英語でのスピーチ技術の向上への意欲が高まった良い機会となりました。

早朝からヒースロー空港に移動しました。これから全員揃って搭乗します。

羽田まで、帰りは約12時間の飛行です。8時35分（東京17時35分）離陸、東京7時25分到着予定です。

無事に羽田に到着しました。入国審査が終わり、次は羽田10時10分搭乗→伊丹11時40分到着の予定です。

帰りは予定を変更して、伊丹空港からサービスエリア休憩を取らず走行します。（羽田空港で昼食休憩が取れたため）よって学校到着時刻は14時20分、明石駅は13時50分頃に早まる見込みです。学校の西門は13時40分から入場できるよう段取りしていただきます。お気をつけてお越しください。

おはようございます。６日目です。全員元気です。昨日の観劇後は、興奮が収まらない様子でした。

今日は朝から、現地の学生ガイドとともに市内を周り、大英博物館で合流します。

無事に再集合です。

スケールの大きな大英博物館の展示作品の数々を見学し、夕食はパブでfish and tipsをいただきました。いよいよ明日はイギリスを離れます。

おはようございます。５日目です。昨夜は市内のホテルでゆっくり休みました。

イングリッシュブレックファーストをいただいた後、地下鉄に乗ってロンドン塔、ナショナルギャラリー、ピカデリーサーカスを周ります。夜は「オペラ座の怪人」を鑑賞します。授業で読んだ教材なので楽しみにしています。

一日の終わりは、再び全員揃ってオペラ座の怪人を鑑賞します。ありがとうございます。

 現地ガイドとともに、ウォーキングツアーに出ました。イギリス英語をじっくり聴きながら、市内の名所を回ります。

お世話になったガイドさん、バスの運転手さん、お一人お一人に、生徒達は英語で丁寧に挨拶をして、お礼の手作りのメッセージカードを手渡しています。日本文化を紹介する美しいカードです。

自由時間の後、コベントガーデンにて、国際人間科の卒業生が顔を出してくれました。英国に住んで仕事をしています。記念撮影後も色々と話は尽きませんでした。

全員元気で夕食後、バス移動でホテルに無事到着しました。昨日、今日と石畳の上を各2万歩近く歩いています。ゆっくり休んで明日に備えましょう！

コベントガーデンの近くには、沢山の劇場があります。明日の夜はオペラ座の怪人を鑑賞します。

午後からは、シェイクスピアゆかりの地、ストラトフォードへ。生家や墓地を見学し、ホストファミリーに迎えられ、一泊します。英語でしっかり交流し、いい思い出を作ってください！

大学の街、オックスフォードに来ました。30以上のカレッジが集まり、オックスフォード大学を構成しています。ハリーポッターの舞台のモデルとなったクライストチャーチ等を見学。ランチは、学生街での昼食を体験します。

おはようございます。3日目です。よく寝て全員元気です。ホテルでイングリッシュブレックファーストをいただき、バスでオックスフォードに向かいます。

宿泊ホテルには、シェイクスピアを感じる芸術が身近にありました。

空港からバスで２時間かけて、コッツウォルズ地方に来ました。ガイドのナタリーさんの美しいイギリス英語を聴きながら、伝統の石造りの街並みを歩きます。お昼は自由、さっそくフィッシュ&チップス組も！

コッツウォルズからストラトフォード・アポン・エイボンへ。ホテル到着前に、ウィリアム・シェイクスピアの妻、アン・ハサウェイの家（下の写真）に立ち寄りました。

13時間のフライトを経て、ロンドン、ヒースロー空港に着きました。寝不足ですが、全員元気です。

伊丹空港から羽田空港に来ました。深夜便でロンドンに飛びます。夕食はリッチにラウンジでゆっくりとります。まだまだ眠れません。

本日より、国際人間科２年生がイギリス研修旅行に出発します。多くの保護者と先生に見送られ、夕刻に学校を発ちました。現在伊丹空港です。みんなノリノリ！

　2024年12月23日（月）に体育館で表彰伝達式が行われました。国際人間科の生徒も表彰を受けました。

　まず、2024年10月6日に行われた第39回兵庫県高校生英語スピーチコンテスト東播磨地区大会で 第4位 になった2年8組の 池内　虹海 （いけうち　こう）さんが表彰を受けました。続いて11月16日に行われた第27回兵庫県高校生英文エッセーコンテスト（1年生の部)で佳作になった1年7組の濵西　あかりさんが賞状と副賞を受け取りました。

　次に、実用英語技能検定でこの秋、準1級に合格した2年8組の金本　蒼騎（かねもと　ちゃんぎ）さん、 3年8組の 大辻　佳加 （おおつじ　よしか）さん、3年8組の西村　茉彩（にしむら　まい）さんの３名が表彰を受けました。

恒例の大学訪問を行いました。

県立大学では、国際商経学部のジェレミー先生による南アフリカについての講義、そして学部の説明を受けました。

また、本校国際科OBの県立大生との座談会を開きました。

その後、神戸市外大に移動し、昼食後、大学についての説明を受け、外大生の案内の元キャンパスツアーを行いました。

そして、本校国際科OBの外大生との座談会を開きました。

特に座談会では、憧れのOB学生に話を聞くことができ、目標を明確にすることができたのではないでしょうか。

国際人間科の生徒が、兵庫県の高校生国際交流事業の代表団に選ばれ、中国最南端の海南省に滞在しています。

12月16日は、海南中学を訪れ、現地の高校生と親交を深めました。

1学級50名が在籍し、1学年につき19学級もあります。中国の生徒は昼休憩を挟んで、朝から夜まで実に熱心に勉学に励んでいます。切磋琢磨し心身の修養に努めています。

12月17日は海南華僑中学を訪問しました。職員に歓迎され、主に国際科に属する高校生と文化交流を行いました。1学年29学級が3学年ある大規模校です。寮生活を送り週末に家族の元に帰っています。

 　姉妹校の西オーストラリア州パースにあるチャーチランズ高校の１２年生（高校３年生）Tomikoに加えて１２年生のDanniel と昨年卒業したRohanが訪日し高木(Mike)の授業に計１０時間参加しました。①オーストラリアの文化（授業、ファッション、行事）②オーストラリアのクリスマスについて、のプレゼンテーションをし、グループやペアで、日本とオーストラリアの文化や食べ物について話したり、家族や趣味について話しました。

　２年８組のクラスでは、２時間ディベートについてConstructive Speechの作成を手伝ってくれました。1年８組は、３時間ありプレゼンや話し合いをし、３時間目の授業では、ペアで文化や趣味について話しました。最後にクラス写真を撮りました。

3年8組に、オーストラリアの姉妹校の卒業生が訪問しています。

授業の中で、オーストラリアのクリスマスの過ごし方について、興味深い発表をしてくれました。

また、本校のALTもトリニダード・トバゴのクリスマスの様子を紹介し、生徒達は目を輝かせて聴いていました。

令和６年度神戸大学体験入学、JICAスタディツアーがおこなわれ、国際人間科１年７組３８名が参加しました。

まず、午前中は、神大国際文化学研究科前の鶴甲第１キャンパスに集合し、本校ＯＢ神戸大経済学部３回生の岡本さんとその友人妹尾さんによるキャンパス見学が行われました。続いて、その２人に質問をする時間がありました。

そのあと、神戸大学国際人間科学部グローバル文化学科の小澤卓也教授が講義をしてくださいました。内容は「スペイン語圏における国旗成立の歴史」でした。国旗にある情報や事実がどう強調されているか、またどう排除されているかを知る事でその国の歴史の全体像が見える、というお話でした。例として中米５か国（グアテマラ、ホンジュラス、エルサルバドル、ニカラグア、コスタリカ）の国旗から何がわかるか考えました。高校生にもわかりやすい講義でした。

神戸大学の学生食堂で昼食を食べた後、ＪＲ六甲道から灘駅へ行き、徒歩で摩耶にあるＪＩＣＡ関西へ移動しました。

１４：３０から職員の山本果奈さんにより、ＪＩＣＡ事業の概要と「青年海外協力隊員の体験から学ぶ（キルギス）」の講義がありました。ＪＩＣＡとはどんなところかがわかり、また中央アジアのキルギスの小学校で美術教育に従事し、文化の違いなどを体験した興味深いお話を聞きました。

そのあと、展示室と図書館で見学をし、解散しました。

　第32回高校生英語暗誦・スピーチコンテスト予備選考会（神戸日米協会主催）が2024年11月23日（土・祝）に神戸のホテル北野プラザ六甲荘で行われました。明石西高等学校から国際人間科1年生の長野心美さんが参加しました。

　午前22名、午後23名の計45名が、'What adults can learn from kids'「大人は子供から何を学べるか」(Adora Svitak　アドーラ・スヴィタク)のスピーチの抜粋を暗誦しました。

　なお、12月上旬に予備選考会通過の１０名が発表され、1月の最終選考会のスピーチコンテストに参加します。

　2024年11月14日（木）に、２年校内スピーチコンテスト入賞者が校長室で表彰されました。１位が堀井さん、佃さんの２名（同点）、３位が金本さん、４位加藤さん、瀧原さんの２名（同点）でした。また、HeNDa（全国ディベート）の兵庫県予選で、教員推薦のNominated Debaterとして新井さんが表彰されました。

2024年11月8日(金)午後、同窓会館で１年生のレシテーション（暗唱）コンテスト、２年生のスピーチコンテストが行われました。１年生は課題の５つのスピーチから一つを選び暗唱をして、発表しました。２年生は自分の考えを英語にしてそれを英語でスピーチしました。

１年生のレシテーション入賞者は、第１位ミシュラさん、２位高橋（日）さん、３位小武さん、４位神木さんでした。

11月11日(月)に校長先生より表彰を受けました。

2024年11月14日（祝・月）神戸市立葺合高等学校で第19回全国高校生英語ディベート大会(HEnDA)兵庫県予選会が行われ、12校が参加しました。

本校からは、国際人間科2年8組6名のメンバーと2名のサポーターが参加しました。

論題は'The Japanese government should abolish all nuclear power plants in Japan.'でした。

５試合（加古川西、県立伊丹、報徳、葺合、神大付属）行い、８位となりました。

この大会は初めての参加であり、よく健闘しました。また、２月の県のディベート大会のよい準備となりました。

なお、Nominated Debater(Recognized by Teachers)は明石西高校より新井聖生(ARAI Kosei)さんが選ばれました。

明石西高校の3人のALTの内、本日出勤のジャリーサさんとブレイクさんが、仮装をして明るい雰囲気を届けてくれました。

教室にて英語でやり取りをした後、記念撮影をしました。

今年度の東播英語スピーチコンテストが、東播磨高校で行われました。

１次予選を通過した20名が、英語で自らのスピーチを披露しました。

本校DGAからは、２年生の３人が出場しました。

上位３位までに与えられる県大会出場は逃しましたが、池内さんが４位に入賞しました。おめでとうございます。

３人とも、この経験を糧にこれからの英語学習にさらに励んでほしいと思います。

2024年度第49回体育大会が行われました。開会式のあと、午前の部は1 ラジオ体操　2（女子）４ｘ１００リレータイムレース決勝　３（男子）４ｘ１００リレータイムレース決勝　４ブロック対抗１年大縄跳び　５ブロック対抗２年台風の目リレー　６ブロック対抗３年綱引き　７応援合戦がありました。

午後から　８運動部行進　９部対抗リレー　１０PTA種目のあと、１１（女子）同窓会長杯スウェーデンリレー　１２　（男子）PTA会長杯スウェーデンリレー　１３（男女）学校長杯ブロック対抗リレー　がありました。

最後に閉会式があり、成績発表がありました。総合優勝は、２－８（国際）がはいったCブロック（白）でした。応援合戦は、３－１（教育）がはいったAブロック（紫）が優勝しました。

2024年度明石西高等学校第２回学校説明会を2024年9月21日（土）の午前9:30～と午後13:30～の２回行いました。

それぞれの前半説明会は、①校長あいさつ　②西高の説明（生徒会）③西高および普通科の説明（教頭）④BYOD(iPad購入）の説明（情報）⑤教育類型の説明（教育類型主任）⑥国際人間科の説明（国際人間科長）

がありました。後半の説明会は、教育類型か国際人間科を選択し、説明を聞いていただきました。

国際人間科は同窓会館に移動し、①語学研修の動画　②生徒の声（日本語）、生徒の声（英語）　③本校入試リスニングトレーニング　④ALT紹介＆ゲーム　があり終了しました。

124のご家庭より中３生123名、保護者123名計246名が国際人間科説明会に参加してくださいました。

2024年Global Citizenship Iの特別講義が9月5日（木）の１，２時間目に行われました。これは、７月の第１回特別講義の続きにあたるもので、関西学院大学総合政策学部の井上さんと村上さんが講師を務めてくれました。

　今回は、平和とは何かを考える際、平和学の研究者、ガルトゥングの考え方を学びました。平和の対となる概念を暴力と考え、３つの暴力「直接的暴力、構造的暴力、文化的暴力」というものを彼は考えました。本校生徒は、それについてアニメを見て３つの暴力とは何なのかを学習しました。続いてグループに分かれ、実際の世の中の出来事の１つを取り上げ、３つの暴力の考え方を用いてグループで分析し、最後になにが３つの暴力にあたるのか発表しました。その後、７月と９月の平和に関する講義に関する感想や学習内容のアンケートを書きました。

　関西学院大学総合政策学部の井上さんと村上さんは、清水康子教授のゼミ生で、平和教育の研究を行っており、今回はその研究の一環となります。なお、２０２５年の３月には、本校１回生の卒業生でもある清水教授の特別講義が第三回Global Citizenship特別講義として予定されています。

2024年9月2日（月）、兵庫県立明石西高等学校の２学期が始まりました。

そして、2024年9月1日～2025年7月31日の間、ヒッポ・ファミリークラブを通じての留学生、ノルウェー人のリアム・ティスカ・ダーシー(Liam TyskØ D'arcy)さんが明石西高校に登校しました。これから１１か月間、1年7組の１員として、本校で授業、行事、部活など学校生活を体験します。１年７組であいさつし、放送による始業式で全校生にあいさつしました。

English Camp 最終日です。

13人のFinalistによるSpeech Contest Final Round が行われました。スピーチのお題は”I can’t throw away my ....”です。表情豊かにジェスチャーをたくさん使った素晴らしいspeechばかりでした！

自分で考えた英語でのspeechを発表するのは今回が初めてということもあり、緊張で覚えた文章が飛んでしまったり声が震えてしまったりと、自分のベストが出せなかった人もいたでしょう。しかし、今日までにたくさん練習し努力したことに変わりはありません。I’m so proud of everyone!

Speech Contestの結果発表をもって3日間のEnglish Campは終了しました。この3日間の経験をこれからの英語学習に大いに役立ててほしいですね。

English Camp2日目、みんな元気です。

午前中は2つのWork shop、午後に1つWork shopがありました。英語でのActivityにも慣れてきて、積極的に参加できた生徒が昨日よりも多かったと感じます。

その後Speech Contestの予選が行われ、13名のFinalistが決まりました。明日の本戦に向け各自練習に励みましょう！

English Camp 1日目の午後はUltra Quizからスタート。4名のALTがそれぞれ10問のQuiz を用意してくれました。彼らの出身国や好きなものについて、riddle(日本でいうなぞなぞ) など多くの種類の問題があり、各チームで協力しながら答えました。

その後はクラスを半分に分けてのWork shop。たくさん英語を話す必要があるアクティビティでしたが、皆楽しみながら取り組んでいました。 最後は明日のspeech contest予選に向けた練習です。ALTからたくさんのアドバイスをもらいました。

宿泊するホテルで夕食をとった後は、アドバイスを参考に各自でスピーチ練習に励みました。今日は早く寝て明日に備えましょう。

国際人間科で毎年行われているEnglish Campが今年も始まりました！8月6日から3日間『LOVE English ＆ LOVE Mistakes』という目標の元、さまざまなアクティビティを行います。

今年は松陽高校からQuinn, 山形県からPeter, 本校からBlake, Jaleeca, そして新しいALTのKekeletsoも加わり、5人のALTが参加してくれています。

午前中はOpening Ceremonyの後、4グループに分かれてそれぞれのALTが行うWork Shopに参加しました。授業でも行っているので英語でのActivityはお手のものです☺︎ しかし、English CampのルールはAll English! 友達とのおしゃべりも、移動中も、いかなる時でもSpeak English!  まだ少し日本語が聞こえるような(？)気がしますが、これからどんどんLove English and Mistakes で話してもらいたいですね。

　2024年7月18日（木）1,2時間目に、1年7組37名がGlobal Citizenshipの特別講義を受けました。関西学院大学総合政策学部国際政策学科から井上さんと豊福さんが来校し、井上さんが講義を行いました。

　内容は、「平和教育」についてでした。「平和とは何か」の問いに続いて、1945年の明石であった空襲について学びました。そのうち3回の空襲について状況を聞いて、地図を見ながらどこへ逃げるか判断する、というグループワークを行いました。最後に「当時の明石市民になりきってどうだったか」という振り返りがありました。生徒は熱心に話を聞き、討論していました。

　なお、第2回の特別講義は、9月5日に行われます。

　2024年7月16日（火）兵庫県立大学神戸商科キャンパスで13:00より国際商経学部のプロジェクトセミナー受講生が最終発表会を行い、明石西高校国際人間科2年生32名が参加しました。

　担当のジェレミー先生のクラスから４つ、ビン先生のクラスから２つ、食品関連の発表がありました。実際にfood wasteについての改善案を提案するもの、規格外の野菜の利用法など、わかりやすく実用化できる発表がありました。そのあと、明石西高校の生徒の質問があり、「規格外野菜から作る野菜シートの保存期間は？」などを尋ねました。

2024年6月13日(木)明西祭２日目が行われ、各学年の国際人間科が活躍しました。

まず、昨日に続き、３年８組のYukiDonald'sの店がハンバーガー、プルコギサンド、ドリンクを販売しました。

大人気で行列ができました。

10:55から舞台上で、国際人間科3年生がメンバーのRavissantが有志のダンスを行いました。午後の最後はCrazy girls がダンスしました。

11:05からは、２年８組のクラス劇「ハンバーガーショップの野望」が上演されました。演技、セリフ、声量、ストーリー、道具などすばらしいものでした。

 午後は、ALTのBlakeが日本語で落語「まんじゅうこわい」を披露しました。そのあとコーラス大会１年生決勝があり３クラスが合唱しました。

そのあと、ESSが'Cinderella'を上演しました。皆に内容が分かるようにスクリーンに日本語を出しました。

ALT３名も登場しました。

続いて吹奏楽の演奏がありました。途中で'Timing'の曲を３年学年団の先生方が舞台で歌いました。

クロージングセレモニーで結果が発表されました。１年コーラスは１組が優勝、2年展示は4組が優勝、2年の劇は国際人間科8組が優勝しました。最後に校長先生のコメントがあり、明西祭は終了しました。
